Mechano growth factor is a splice variant of IGF-1, formed from the IGF-1Ec isoform, and the research peptide corresponds to its unique C-terminal E-domain. Attaching polyethylene glycol, or PEGylation, increases molecular size and slows clearance and enzymatic breakdown in experimental systems, so PEG-MGF is the form generally chosen when researchers want a longer-lived reagent in a culture.
