What is LL-37?
LL-37 is the active C-terminal fragment of the hCAP18 precursor and takes its name from the two leucines at the start of its 37-residue chain. It forms an amphipathic alpha-helix in membranes, which is what drives its activity against bacterial membranes in vitro and makes it a model for helical antimicrobial peptides. It also appears in studies of immune-cell chemotaxis and epithelial signalling. At 37 residues it is among the longer peptides we list, so analytical identity and purity checks are particularly informative.
