SNAP-8 is an eight-residue peptide designed to mimic part of SNAP-25, a protein in the SNARE complex. It is used in vesicle-fusion and neurotransmitter-release research models.
What is SNAP-8?
SNAP-8 is an acetylated octapeptide that extends the shorter hexapeptide known as acetyl hexapeptide-3. It copies a stretch of the N-terminal end of SNAP-25, one of the three proteins that form the SNARE complex driving vesicle fusion at the synapse. In the lab it serves as a competitor in assays of SNARE complex assembly. The same sequence is also used as a cosmetic ingredient, but this product is sold only as a research chemical for in-vitro work and is not a cosmetic or for human or veterinary use.
